St. Martin's Church, rural Dodge, was organized in 1906 and served by the Benedictine priests. The church was razed in the 1980's, and a replica now stands on the cemetery grounds near the original church site.
By October 1, 1920, Precious Blood priests arrived in the diocese and were assigned to work among the Catholics along present-day Highway 200 from Hazen to Grassy Butte.
The Catholic congregation in Dodge (originally called St. Mary's) was organized in 1925 with a name change to Precious Blood. The church was moved from Manning to Dodge. In the 1940's, St. Paul's of Halliday and Dodge shared a priest, and in 1949 a new church was built in Halliday with aid from the Catholic Extension Society. St. Paul's was established as a parish in 1952, during which time the present rectory was built.
By 1986, due to dwindling population and a shortage of priests, both St. Martin's and Precious Blood were closed and merged into the parish of St. Paul's in Halliday. Together, under the leadership of Father Jerry Ruelle, O.S.B., the members completely remodeled the church from roof to basement.
St. Paul's was served by Father Jerry Ruelle O.S.B. from 1986 to 2007. Father James Shea served from 2007-2009. Father Darnis Selvanayakam served from July 2009 to May 2018. Our present pastor, Fr. Joseph Evinger began his pastorate with St. Paul's parish in July 2018.
