Folks, for the next number of weeks I plan to write a series on the Mass. I plan to cover many aspects of the Sacred Liturgy and explain what certain phrases mean. I hope these articles will help all of us more and more to come to know, understand, and love the Mass, that is, the Real Presence of God in our midst.
The Mass brings together the traditions leading up to Christ as well as those that follow Christ’s time on earth. It fulfills the Old Testament and commemorates the establishment of the New Testament in Jesus’ blood. The Mass is the prayer of all prayers. It is the prayer from which all other prayers derive and look towards. The Mass brings God to us and us to God. It increases our communion with Him.
The Sacred Liturgy has two main sections: the Liturgy of the Word and the Liturgy of the Eucharist. There are also the Introductory Rites before these two sections and the Closing Rites which follow. But before I begin the explanation of each I will write some articles on preparing for Mass. Let us open our minds and hearts to Jesus in a new way whom we meet in every Mass.
