This Sunday we celebrate the Solemnity of Our Lord Jesus Christ, King of the Universe.
Jesus has two types of Kingship. As God he has eternally been king of all creation. As a human being and a Jew He received his earthly kingship through Joseph. St. Joseph was the rightful king to the throne of David. However, he and his fathers before him could not take the throne on account of the overruling Romans and before the Romans on account of the Greeks, Persians, and Babylonians. When reading the gospels according to St. Matthew and St. Luke, we see the royal line go back to King David. We see Jesus receives this earthly royalty through Joseph.
This Advent, which begins next Sunday December 1, we are going as a parish cluster to dive into a deeper relationship with God with the help of St. Joseph. Ascension Press out of Pennsylvania has put together a little book and short video series called
Rejoice. It has mediations for each day during Advent till Christmas to help us understand what happened for Jesus to be born that first Christmas day.
With the help of
Rejoice I would like each of you to take this opportunity to dive into a deeper relationship with Christ as many others in the parish are doing. Do not be afraid of acknowledging what is going on in your life, both good and bad. Do not be afraid of relating this stuff to Jesus our king. Do not be afraid of receiving what He has planned for you. Do not be afraid of responding to his love and making Him your king. Do not be afraid of Jesus. This little book will help you do just that: have a better prayer life and relationship with God.
